  2. Update your Xbox Controller Firmware
  3. Check your Speaker audio settings
  4. Run the Audio Setup Tool

Let’s see all these fixes in detail.

1] Adjust your headset volume in Audio Settings on Xbox Console

By default, the headset volume is not set to maximum in Xbox Console. Due to this, you will not get the desired sound output on your headset after connecting it to the Xbox Console. To fix this problem, you have to increase the headset volume in Audio Settings on your Xbox Console. The following steps will help you do that. Before proceeding, connect your headset to your Xbox Console otherwise, you will not see the Audio settings option in Xbox Guide.

Increase your headset volume on Xbox

  1. Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
  2. Navigate to the Audio tab. You will find it at the bottom right side of the Xbox Guide.
  3. Now, you will see the Headset Volume option. Move the slider to the right to increase your headset volume.

In addition to the Headset Volume, you will see two more options there.

  • Headset Chat Mixer: This feature lets you control your Game audio and Party Chat audio. If you want the Game louder than the Party chat, move the slide to the left, and if you want the Party Chat audio louder than the Game audio, move the slider to the right.
  • Mic Monitoring: It is the feature that enables you to hear your own voice through your headset. If you do not want this feature, move the slide to the left.

2] Update your Xbox Controller Firmware

If the issue persists after increasing your headset volume in Xbox Console Audio settings, you should update your Controller Firmware. You can connect your wired headset to the Xbox Controller by plugging it into the 3.5 mm audio jack or via the Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter. If the firmware version of your Xbox Controller is not up to date, you will experience audio issues. Hence, keeping the firmware of your Xbox Controller up to date is recommended.

Update Xbox Controller Firmware

The following steps will help you update the firmware of your Xbox Controller.

  1. Press the Xbox button to open the Guide.
  2. Go to “Profile > Settings.”
  3. Select the Devices & connections category from the left side and then click Accessories.
  4. Now, click on the three dots and then click the Firmware version.
  5. Click Continue to install the available updates.

3] Check your Speaker audio settings

This solution is for the users who have connected their TV to Xbox Console through HDMI cable or speakers through Optical cable. If you are not receiving the desired sound output, make sure that your HDMI or Optical audio is set to Stereo uncompressed. The following steps will guide you on this.

Configure Speaker sudio settings on Xbox

  1. Open the Guide by pressing the Xbox button.
  2. Go to “Profile > Settings.”
  3. Select the General category from the left side.
  4. Click Volume & audio output.
  5. Under the Speaker audio section, select Stereo uncompressed in HDMI audio or Optical audio (whichever you are using).

If the Speaker audio section is greyed out, set the Headset format to Stereo uncompressed (see the above screenshot).

4] Run the Audio Setup Tool

The Audio Setup Tool will help you troubleshoot audio issues on your Xbox. Follow the steps written below:

  1. Open the Guide by pressing the Xbox button.
  2. Go to “Profile & system > Settings > General > Volume & audio output.”
  3. You will see the Audio setup option under Advanced. Select it.
  4. Highlight the audio setup option that you want to use and then press the A button to start the audio test.

The above steps will help you know whether your speakers are working fine or not.
